The ITESM has committed itself to consolidate its leadership position in Latin America and become one of the best business schools in the world. For fulfilling this goal has been created the Graduate School of Business Administration and Leadership (EGADE), whose mission is to educate Master’s and Ph.D. students to become excellent professionals in the theory and practice of business administration and leadership. In response to the needs of the business world, EGADE offers advanced studies in business administration: Master’s and Doctoral degrees, as well as continuing education programs.
Master in Business Administration
This program consists of 21 courses. Students have the opportunity to concentrate on one of six major fields: Management of Technology, Finance, Marketing, International Trade, Business Policy, and Human Resources. This way, they can develop a special expertise in certain techniques of analysis. To accomplish the degree, they must develop a project in their field, in which they apply their knowledge and abilities to diagnose, evaluate and solve an administrative problem of a real enterprise or organization. The Master in Business Administration is considered to be a conversion program, that means, it assists students in a career change, besides helping them to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their current professional environment.
Master in Finance/Master in Marketing
These two programs consist of 19 courses each. One of their distinguishing marks is the research project students conduct to accomplish the degree, which allows them to apply the knowledge and abilities acquired during their studies. Both programs are oriented to enhance the performance of high-level executives in Finance and Marketing, contributing extensively to the development of their critical and strategic thinking skills.
Pedagogical Methods and Language of Tuition
Courses are taught mostly in Spanish, although some of them are held in English. The usual methodology includes a combination of lectures and casework, actively involving students through individual and group projects and presentations. Students can expect a wide variety of instructional approaches, but all of them use communication technology as a pedagogical tool. Students are expected to be active participants in the learning community and are evaluated on their contribution to team projects, class discussions, case analyses, and written examinations.
Exchange Programs
Each year, students are provided an opportunity to study for a term with one of our exchange partners. Among others, these include: University of California, Los Angeles; Texas A&M University; Tulane University; Carnegie Mellon University; New York University at Buffalo; University of Washington; Thunderbird University; McGill University; Western Ontario University; University of Toronto; University of Waterloo.
With UT-Austin we have established a Double Degree program, which represents the most innovative program in North American management education. Double-degree students must first be admitted as regular MBA students at UT-Austin or at ITESM-Monterrey. Admission to the Double-Degree Program will depend partially upon the performance of students in the first stage of their programs at their home institution. Those students who have qualified can become full–fledged participants in the academic programs of both schools. This agreement allows them to complete the Double Degree Program in a shorter time than would be required to complete the two degrees separately.
We also have university alliances with institutions located in Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Norway, Japan, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Chile. These alliances include joint research, student and professor exchange programs, lectures via satellite, and internships.
The Faculty
The 22 full-time faculty and the 90 part-time faculty are committed to the students’ development as effective managers, in both the Mexican and the international context. By doing research for and giving lectures to companies, they maintain close links to business and industry and assist students to succeed in a globally competitive economy. The faculty is composed of national and foreign professors, committed to contribute to the leadership capabilities of their students. In order to guarantee high academic standards, EGADE has decided to create faculty councils in each area of concentration with the MBA.
Accommodation
Graduate students are offered a variety of choices for on-and off-campus housing. Off-campus rooms and apartments are within walking distance of the Institute.
Financial Assistance
Only Mexican students can apply for financial assistance from ITESM. Graduate students rely on employer reimbursement, private funding and loans to finance their educational expenses.
